Thor: 10 Mortals Who Wielded Asgard's Weapons

4. Eric Masterson

Daredevil Hofund
Marvel Comics

In the 1980s, when Thor needed a replacement, they handed the mantle to a scary alien dude who was actually a huge goofy sweetheart. In the 1990s, they handed it off to a beefy blonde dude with a leather jacket.

The nineties truly were the dark times.

Fortunately, Eric Masterson didn't wield the hammer for long before Thor eventually returned. When he did, to their credit, they gave Eric his own comic with his own weapon: an Asgardian mace named Thunderstrike. So we're officially three for three on magical lightning based weapons.

Eric would go on to have his own book for a while before it met the fate of all Marvel's nineties-era misadventures, and was swiftly canceled when the appeal of "badass" Thor peeled away and everyone realized that it... kinda sucked.

So off Eric was to a team-up book where, well... it's a team-up book in Marvel that ISN'T The Avengers, so no surprise that that was the last we mostly saw of Eric Masterson.
