Top 10 Marvel NOW! Titles

1. The Superior Spider-Man, Volume 1

Superior Spider Man 1 And finally, the most controversial Marvel NOW! alteration - the dramatic conclusion to Amazing Spider-Man #700's "Dying Wish" storyline. To end the webslinger's 50th anniversary year, Slott did the unthinkable, concluding the storyline by having a dying Doctor Octopus switch minds with Peter Parker, the real Spider-Man subsequently dying in his archenemy's broken body. However, with his last breath Peter is able to pass on one important idiom to his former foe - "With great power comes great responsibility". By killing, arguably, the company's most popular hero, Slott took a considerable gamble. However, it seems to have paid off as Slott has produced one of the finest, most well-written and unpredictable titles of the revamp, and I'd go as far as to argue that "Dying Wish" was the best thing to happen to Spider-Man in years. Relaunching under the Marvel NOW! title The Superior Spider-Man, the new flagship Spidey title follows Otto Octavius who, with a new found moral conscience, swears to use his vast intellect to become a better, "superior" version of his former nemesis. Hiring henchmen, mind controlling enemies and blackmailing the mayor, the arrogant Dr Ock stays true to his criminal mastermind nature, the Superior Spider-Man becoming an unexpectedly compelling anti-hero. However, it looks like Octavius' tenure is set to end in April with the relaunch of the Peter Parker starring Amazing Spider-Man, but that doesn't mean there won't be any repercussions from the former Otto's time behind the mask. Having little regard for the way Peter Parker conducted his superhero and civilian lifestyles, Ock's actions in the series have alienated "Parker" from his former friends and have got "Spider-Man" kicked out of the Avengers (having punched several of them in the face first). The fate of Otto Octavius at the end of Superior Spider-Man's run is still unclear, but let's hope this won't be the last time Dr Octopus is at the forefront of Peter Parker's problems.
