What Could The Joker Have In Store for Death Of The Family?

Barbara Gordon / Batgirl

In DC 52, Babs Gordon regained her ability to walk, swing, fight crime and wear her Batgirl costume. It€™s been nearly a year and I€™m not sold on this being a good idea, because once again it undermined the lasting effects of what The Killing Joke did to the Batman universe and in turn de-valued another act of Joker destruction (I also really liked Barbara's new found role as Oracle and it was a key ingredient to Bat-goodness). Again, seeing her meet up with The Joker again should prove extremely interesting and Batgirl is going to want to overcome her fear of the clown prince of crime in a big bad way I€™d imagine. Chances Of Getting Killed: Given the DC 52 reboot has spent a year re-establishing Batgirl, a character that has been through a number of different characters behind the mask without anything really sticking because we all want Barbara, killing off Batgirl is unlikely and injuring her to the point of returning her to the wheelchair seems a little underhanded. DC€™s seem happy to have her back in the cowl. I€™m sure somewhere in this story they€™ll play her being paralysed again temporarily but honestly I can€™t see anything happening to Batgirl here. Shock Value: If anything happens to Batgirl I will be incredibly shocked. This return of Joker will add a lot of dramatic weight to our girl bat but if Snyder does take it one step further and either kills her off or seriously hurts her the shocks will ride high. However, as with Jason Todd, a certain degree of me will tie it in to course correcting and having Joker re-do something he€™s done before would feel like a cop out, so that knocks a couple of notches off of the overall potential shock value.
