What Happened Every Time The Thing Fought The Hulk?
6. Fantastic Four #166-167
While #166 is another instance of the entire FF getting in on the action when the Hulk goes on ANOTHER rampage, this time throughout St. Louis, it leads into a true one on one in issue #167.
The first half of this two-parter is a very well done fight between the Fantastic Four and the Hulk, with the four utilizing their powers in creative combinations to incapacitate the monster. The fight ends with Johnny burning away the air around the Hulk, Sue putting up a force field around his head to keep him from replenishing his air supply, and Reed wrapping himself tight around the Hulk to give the Thing an opening to knock Hulk flat.
Then we move on into the second part, where the Thing busts the Hulk out of prison when the military decides they wanna turn Bruce into a lab rat for the rest of his life.
However, this alliance is almost hilariously short lived, as the two are soon back at it all over again atop the St. Louis Gateway Arch. While the Thing puts up a valiant fight, it ends bad for him when he suddenly starts turning back into Ben Grimm. Which is, of course, very bad when fighting someone like the Hulk, who slugs him off the bridge.
