What Happened To Everyone Who Became Horsemen Of Apocalypse?
15. Archangel
The first and obviously most famous mutant to be turned into one of Apocalypse's lackeys, Warren Worthington III is probably more recognisable today by his title as Archangel than for his original one - so iconic was Walt and Louise Simonson's redesign in Marvel's X-Factor series from the 1980s.
Worthington finds his way to Apocalypse by way of the Mutant Massacre, a storyline helmed by the two Simonsons along with X-Men regular Chris Claremont. The storyline focused on a group of sinister mutants known as the Marauders, and over the course of eleven issues, it more than lived up to the name.
Several mutants were badly wounded in the conflict, but none more so than Angel. He had his wings clipped by the Marauders, and Apocalypse - already assembling a new group of Horsemen to make his first move - saw an opportune moment to strike.
Coming to Angel's rescue after his plane explodes, Apocalypse promises Warren his wings back so long as he pledges allegiance as his new Death. Despondent, Angel agrees, and after genetically altering him to the point his skin turns blue, it's here where the character's modern self was finally realised.
Warren would eventually shake Apocalypse's control, and, as time went on, he'd also regrow his original feathered wings. His time as Death would always stay with him though, to the point where he even turned evil once again in the pages of Uncanny X-Force.
