First Appearance As Spider-Man: Ultimate Fallout #4

Miles Morales may have started out in the Ultimate Universe, but come 2015's Secret Wars the character was reintroduced in Earth-616.

Brian Bendis, Mark Bagley and Sara Pichelli's Ultimate Spider-Man comics are often considered the best Spidey stories of the modern age, and it's difficult to disagree. Bendis pushed Peter forward first, and then managed to take the comics world by storm when he and Pichelli introduced Miles. An Afro-Latino teen, Morales was a huge breath of fresh air and quickly managed to endear himself to Marvel's readers in no time at all, becoming the new Spider-Man after Peter Parker's death in 2011.

The Ultimate Universe experienced a brief resurgence upon his introduction, but fans were desperate to see the character make the jump to Marvel's mainstream continuity. This happened with the conclusion of Secret Wars, which reintroduced Miles and his co-stars into the main Marvel Universe with no memory of their past life.

In the years since, the Ultimate Spider-Man has experienced something of a meteoric rise; he was the lead of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, received his own video game, and is on par with Peter in terms of how integral he is to the Marvel mythos.

Miles Morales is Spider-Man. Long may his reign as Brooklyn's web-head continue.
