When Reed Richards planned a trip through time and space, he asked each of his teammates to find a suitable replacement to serve as a temporary Fantastic Four.

Because Johnny forgot to find a replacement, he asked his girlfriend, Darla Deering, at the last minute to join the team. Although Darla had no superpowers, Johnny reassured her she wouldn't have to fight any supervillains or aliens since the Fantastic Four would be back soon in a jiffy.

To the surprise of no one, Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben got lost in time, forcing their replacements, Darla, Ant-Man, She-Hulk, and Medusa, to become Earth's official Fantastic Four for some time.

Since Darla had no abilities, she was forced to wear a Thing exoskeleton - a suit designed to replicate Thing's superstrength and durability. Using this exoskeleton, Darla, now calling herself Ms Thing, helped her teammates fight the Mole Man, Blastaar, Kid Immortus, Doctor Doom, and super-intelligent apes (Since this is a Fantastic Four comic, you need to have at least one issue where they fight something ridiculous like super-intelligent apes).

Darla, Ant-Man, and She-Hulk enjoyed working with each other so much, they continued to fight crime together, even after the Fantastic Four returned.
