What Happened To Everyone Who Used A Lazarus Pit?

7. King Snake

Ra's al Ghul Lazarus Pit
DC Comics

While some people have used the Lazarus Pit to literally be brought back from the dead, and others have used it to heal wounds and illnesses, King Snake’s time in the Pit saw the villain regain his sight.

As his origins go, this master martial artist was blinded by gunfire when working as a mercenary for hire. That didn’t stop him from living a life of crime, however, and King Snake would also go on to father a son who you’ll know better as Bane.

On a quest to become the new Naja-Naja – the master of Kobra – King Snake would happen upon a Lazarus Pit. This was no accident, of course, and the rogue had manipulated Daniel Temple into gaining him access to the soothing waters of resurrection.

It was after this Lazarus Pit dip that Edmund Dorrance revealed that he, King Snake, was Bane’s father after the hulking luchador had entered into this particular story arc. There would be no renditions of Cat Stevens’ famed Father and Son for this pair, though, as Dorrance would have Bane gunned down after the venom-fused behemoth decided that his dad was straight-up nuts.

King Snake would live to fight another day after his Lazarus Pit experience, and the conclusion to this tale also saw Bane himself take a dip in the Pit after the wounds inflicted on him by his father’s men.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
