Out of all the names that have become Iron Man, or donned a variation of the character's armour, Victor Von Doom might just be the most unexpected.
Doom's switch from villain to hero in the wake of 2015's Secret Wars was already surprising in itself, but it was the payoff that made it worth it. Bendis and artist Alex Maleev made Doctor Doom Marvel's new Infamous Iron Man in 2016 - it too a consequence of Civil War II - and it was brilliant. Doom channelled his mastery of science and magic to create his own Iron Man armour, even joining the Avengers at one point.

Infamous Iron Man was a short-lived book, but there's no denying just how great it was to see Doom switch sides an honour an old adversary's legacy.
Today however, Doom is back in his old stomping grounds of Latveria, having quelled a Civil War. After his time in the armour, he looks like a different ruler altogether. Who better to illustrate the transformative qualities of the armour, than he?

In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
