Why Legion Of Super-Heroes Is Shaping Up To Be DC's Most Exciting Comic
Brian Bendis and Ryan Sook's reboot is shaping up to be something special.
Not content with marshalling two Superman comics, Wonder Comics and now Event Leviathan, writer Brian Bendis will turn his sights to the Legion of Super-Heroes this September. It's set to be the latest in a long line of reboots for the team, but one that'll also pool together several disparate futures from DC's past to create something completely different. Artist Ryan Sook is already onboard, and so far everything looks pretty excellent, including the team's new designs.
In a new turn of events, Superman's own son Jonathan is set to follow his father's example and become the next Superboy to link up with the Legion, with the character poised to accept his own Legion Flight Ring on the cover for Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium #2. DC also unveiled several new designs for the various legionnaires set to join Jon in the comic, including Jon himself, Matter-Eater-Lad, Dreamgirl, Dawnstar, Element Lad and Blok, as well as preview pages from Nicola Scott, Andre Lima Araujo and Jim Cheung.
A few of the featured designs...
Sook's redesigns look absolutely immaculate, with Dawnstar and Dreamgirl particular highlights. Needless to say it'll also be great to see Jonathan be an older Superboy in the future, fighting alongside the Legion in a manner that's sure to tie-in heavily to mainstream DC continuity.
Those familiar with the Legion will be the first to tell you that they've been cut a bit of a raw deal when it comes to continuity over the last few decades, but Millennium could be set to change that. It boasts a formidable creative team, is bringing some really exciting ideas to the table, and reintroduces a beloved aspect of DC's history into current continuity.
For now at least, what's not to love?
