X-Men: 10 Times Rogue Stole Another Hero's Powers

6. Professor X

Rogue Wolverine Claws
Marvel Comics

Anytime Rogue uses her powers there is a very real risk that either herself or the person she touches could get hurt or worse, like what happened to the first boy Rogue kissed. He ended up in a coma with no hope of waking up. Yet this risk had to be ignored by Cyclops in Uncanny X-Men #175, when he forced Rogue to absorb an unconscious Professor X's powers.

In this opening arc to the pivotal Dark Phoenix Saga, Cyclops falls out of the sky to warn the X-Men that Jean Grey has died. However, the team does not get time to grieve as they are attacked by another threat known as the Mastermind. He tricks the other X-Men into seeing Cyclops as the Dark Phoenix, leading the team to turn on their own leader.

Cyclops battled and defeated the other members of the X-Men and tried to wake up Professor X, who would be able to prove undeniably that Cyclops was telling the truth. But when he was unable to, he forced Rogue to instead absorb the professor's powers and see that everyone had been tricked by the Mastermind.

The threat was serious enough that it warranted Cyclops using Rogue the way he did, but it still seemed like a tremendous risk for both the Professor and Rogue to mix their minds together.
