X-Men: 10 Times Rogue Stole Another Hero's Powers

4. Nightcrawler

Rogue Wolverine Claws
Marvel Comics

An ironic relationship exists between Rogue and Nightcrawler. Nightcrawler is the biological son of Mystique, who abandoned him to save him from a mob of angry humans. Rogue is Mystique's adopted daughter, who she took in to protect from humans as well.

Yet despite their similar origins, Rogue got to have Mystique as a parent whereas Nightcrawler never even had a chance.

The pair help each other when the time comes despite this warped family history, including one time when during a fight with their mother, Mystique and Rogue are hit by an exploding propane tank.

Mystique is able to survive but Rogue was knocked unconscious and Nightcrawler needed to use mouth to mouth to resuscitate her. He assumed that thanks to the genes he shared with Mystique Rogue would not be able to do anything more than knock him unconscious, but surprisingly that wasn't the case.

Instead, Rogue's powers did what they always do but with a twist; Rogue gained all of Nightcrawler's powers and appearance, whereas Nightcrawler turned into a perfectly normal Kurt Wagner with no tail and no powers, giving them an interesting Freaky Friday-esque body swap.
