10 "True Story" Horror Movies That Tricked You Into Believing Them
7. Alien Autopsy (1995)
Created as a hoax movie in 1995, Alien Autopsy is a short, 17-minute movie that does exactly what it says on the tin. Purportedly about an extraterrestrial that was cut up on camera after the Roswell incident of 1947, Ray Santilli released the footage on behalf of a cameraman who previously worked for the military and wanted to remain anonymous. Or at least that's what Santilli told everyone, anyway.
It came out in 2006 that this was not the case, and instead he'd faithfully recreated footage he'd witnessed that had since deteriorated, only managing to get in a few frames that hadn't turned to mush in the years since. Of course, these frames haven't been pointed out, nor has the original footage been brought up at any point despite Santilli's claims that it's all perfectly legit.
Even the experts' comments that surrounded a Fox special titled Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction had been doctored to remove any dubious or doubtful remarks for the feature, which further points to the whole thing being a bit of a mess when they then rightfully complained about it.
All in all, this one isn't half the true story it claimed to be - even if you believe the military footage to be real in other forms.
