Alexander Cassini's directorial debut, Star Time, follows a mentally ill outcast called Henry Pinkle who's obsessed with the sitcom, The Robertson Family. When the show is abruptly cancelled, Henry is left devastated, and sees no more reason to live.

Just as he's ready to end his life, a mysterious agent appears before Henry, promising to make him the star of his own series, if he kills on the agency's behalf. Adopting the moniker, The Baby Mask Killer, Henry begins his murder spree, believing it'll pave the road to fame and fortune.

Star Time immediately stands out, since it's among the few slashers where the protagonist is the killer. Because you see everything from his warped viewpoint, you can understand where he's coming from, even though you can't condone his actions.

Although the premise may have sounded extreme at one point, it's not too far-fetched nowadays. Social media pushes impressionable people to perform violent or illegal acts for recognition. In recent years, we have seen the dangers that gatekeeping fanaticism can pose. Because of these relevant themes, Star Time hits harder now than when it premiered.
