10 Abandoned Scripts Better Than The Finished Movie

7. Brainscan Didn't Have A Freddy Krueger Knock-Off

Another in a long line of films that should have taken the less is more approach, Brainscan is director John Flynn's attempt to cash in on the mid-90s virtual reality craze - a curious craze considering it never caught on in reality, only in pop culture - using a cheap horror film. One of the goofiest additions to the tech-gone-awry subgenre of horror was that of Trickster, a VR Freddy Kruger-like gaming avatar that drives player Edward Furlong to murder and bodily dismemberment.

But the original draft barely featured Trickster, leading viewers to question Furlong's sanity. Before T. Ryder Smith was cast in the role, he was just a 2D face on a screen. Once Flynn saw a hair metal burnout at auditions, Smith's role was expanded before he was even told.

This was an early script for Se7en and Sleepy Hollow writer Andrew Kevin Walker, so its darker implications are more in line with the goofball finished project.
