10 Acclaimed Movies Everybody Now Hates
3. Crash
Another best picture winner, Crash is probably as close to officially being considered to be one of the worst winners of all time as you could possibly get.
Crash is completely dated in its depiction of race relations in America, and is riddled with not one but multiple white saviours and laughable depictions of reconciliations between white citizens and people of colour. It's melodramatic in all the worst ways and reduces serious issues to trivial plotlines that are resolved through ludicrous means.
But these opinions clearly weren't widespread enough back in 2005, as it received 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, an A- CinemaScore and Roger Ebert called it the best film of the year. Dissenters were apparent at the time, as Jack Nicholson expressed his shock and amusement when reading out its Best Picture win in response to the jeers and boos audible in the crowd.
But they clearly weren't enough to prevent this film from an original acclaimed status before later critics and audience members truly turned the tide of public perception of the film.
