10 Acclaimed Movies Everybody Now Hates
2. Sausage Party
The humour present in Sausage Party is to an extremely acquired taste, but this very fact was what made it so acclaimed upon release while most audiences nowadays will be far from singing its praises.
Much of the critical acclaim came from the film's truly unique nature and crude humour within the animation medium, with many pointing towards the end of the film as a must-see in terms of risk-taking cinema history.
But once the hype dies down, years later you're left with an incredibly polarising comedy that will result in malicious negative public opinion depending on who you ask. The 83% it has on Rotten Tomatoes is nowhere near representative of what the average person will tell you about the film nowadays. While still no one can deny how truly unique it is in terms of what it has to offer, what it has to offer isn't exactly to everyone's enjoyment... at all.
As an extra reason to dislike the film, it came to light following its release that many of the animators working on the film worked in poor conditions and were blacklisted for complaining for being expected to work overtime without pay. The dispute was only officially solved in 2019.
