10 Acclaimed Recent Movies That Audiences HATED

It's not unfair to say that Christmas-themed movies need to clear a pretty low bar in order to hit with audiences, but last year's ensemble holiday comedy Christmas Eve in Miller's Point landed as a cinematic hunk of coal for most.

Though trailers for the film presented it as something of a warm, fuzzy, nostalgic ode to holiday gatherings of years past, Ham on Rye filmmaker Tyler Thomas Taormina actually made something a little weirder and trickier to quantify.

Critics were largely enamoured by Taormina's left-field, firmly indie take on the Christmas Movie, though general audiences expecting a conventional, cosy romp were left bewildered by the thin sketch of a plot, slow pacing, and roster of characters they perceived as annoying, resulting in a savage 30% rating.

Compare this to the critically reviled recent Christmas blockbuster Red One, which inexplicably landed a 90% rating with audiences, and it's clear that viewers hunkering down for a seasonal comedy generally don't want to be surprised with something different.
