10 Acclaimed Recent Movies That Audiences HATED

3. Between the Temples

Between the Temples
Sony Pictures Classics

Nathan Silver's new dramedy film Between the Temples was one of the most critically acclaimed films of last year's Sundance, with many pegging it for possible awards honours by year's end - especially for industry legend Carol Kane.

Though the movie ultimately went on to receive zero Oscar nominations, it does sit at a mighty 85% with critics, yet audiences were only half as enthused, giving it a paltry 42% approval.

Commenters often referred to the film as dull, amateur, and unfunny, while taking issue with its grainy 16mm cinematography.

This all flies firmly in the face of critics who found it droll and charming, while lavishing praise on the performances of Kane and Jason Schwartzman.

Unlike many films on this list the marketing didn't really sell Between the Temples as anything that it isn't - it just didn't connect with general viewers the same way it did for reviewers.
