10 Actors About To Make Their Best Movie
7. Channing Tatum - Roofman
Though Channing Tatum's early career hardly made him a critical darling, everyone's gotta start somewhere, and there are certainly less dignified beginnings than the Step Up movies.
But over the last decade-plus Tatum has proven himself a more compelling dramatic and comedic actor than most surely expected, with acclaimed work in the two Jump Street movies, the Magic Mike trilogy, Foxcatcher, The Hateful Eight, Logan Lucky, and most recently Blink Twice.
Yet Tatum's ripest dramatic opportunity to date is his upcoming crime drama Roofman, where he'll portray real-life fugitive Jeffrey Manchester, a former United States Army Reserve officer who earned his titular nickname by breaking into McDonald's restaurants by drilling through the roof.
Tatum will get to star alongside a highly decorated supporting cast, including Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, Peter Dinklage, Juno Temple, and LaKeith Stanfield, but the real winner here is writer-director Derek Cianfrance, best known for the phenomenal dramas Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines.
On paper this affords Tatum his strongest role to date as part of a gritty drama like he's never immersed himself in before.
