If you had the idea of Scarlett Johansson having a music career, most people would probably go to the more jazzy side of the spectrum. I mean, since Scar Jo is known to have a much lower register voice than her contemporaries, it makes sense that she wouldn't try to step on Whitney Houston's territory or anything. What no one expected though was down and dirty singer songwriter tunes.

For most of her debut recordings, Scarlett's first works were not really in the realm of pop at all, rather pulling from the traditional side of the spectrum with a swampy edge to it.
