10 Actors Who Almost Played 2019's Biggest Roles
5. Tom Hardy - Elton John; Rocketman
Rocketman, like Bohemian Rhapsody a year before it, has finally made it to cinema screens after years upon years of development ups and downs. Rocketman's production was first announced in 2011, and for a time, it was Venom star Tom Hardy who was in talks to play Sir Elton John.
Seeing as Rocketman seeks to cover a huge span of Elton's career, starting with his very early days as a performer, it is understandable that the now 39 year old actor would be dropped, as playing a youthful version of Elton would be much more difficult for him now.
On top of that, it is reported that Hardy didn't quite have the singing chops needed to belt out Elton's most famous hits, whereas eventual leading man Taron Egerton had his musical number in Sing, Elton John's 'I'm Still Standing', under his belt and impressed the real life Rocketman with his renditions.
