10 Actors Who Broke The "Child Actor" Curse

4. Jodie Foster

Jodie Foster's performances are so nuanced, she chooses com, plex roles wisely and has even lent her talents to directing preachy, liberal thrillers like Money Monster. It's easy to forget that, beyond DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese has an eye for young talent, and Foster was probably his first major find.

Beginning as a child model at 3, Scorsese quickly cast her as the troubled kleptomaniac daughter of a lovesick waitress in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. It's a minor, but surprisingly memorable role. It wasn't until she played the 15-year-old prostitute (at 15) for Scorsese's Taxi Driver that she was first nominated for an Oscar.

The 80s saw the actress take on braver and bolder roles, perhaps most significantly The Accused in which she plays a rape victim. Outside of her (so far) brief directing career, she's grown into one of the most well-respected actors in Hollywood. To top that of, she even surpassed De Niro's vengeful Taxi Driver for The Brave One (i.e. Death Wish for chicks). Her work has always had a liberal bent, particularly behind the camera, so one certainly does wonder just what John Hinkley saw in her.
