10 Actors Who Could Be The Breakout Stars Of 2018
4. Claire Foy
You Know Her From:
Her Golden Globe winning performance as Queen Elizabeth II in big budget Netflix drama The Crown. Or possibly her BAFTA nominated role as mother of Queen Elizabeth I, Anne Boleyn, in classy BBC period drama Wolf Hall. Probably not for her biggest previous film role as the eponymous witch in Nicolas Cage clunker Season Of The Witch.
In 2018:
Foy, stepping aside from her major TV role to be replaced by Olivia Colman, looks to make the move from TV star to genuine movie star by swapping one Elizabeth for another who could hardly be more different.
2018 sees Foy stepping into the shoes of Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara as dragon tattooed Swedish hacker Lisbeth Salander, one of the twenty-first century's most popular literary creations. Reboot The Girl In The Spider's Web, adapted from David Lagercrantz's sequel novel by Eastern Promises and Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight and directed by Don't Breathe's Fede Alvarez, could do for Foy what the original series did for Rapace.
Meanwhile, she also has mental institution horror Unsane, from the newly unretired and suddenly hugely productive again Steven Soderbergh, to look forward to this year. And there's awards-bait Neil Armstrong biopic First Man from La La Land director Damien Chazelle, in which Foy plays the wife of Ryan Gosling's Armstrong.
Maybe one of these will be enough to banish the memory of Season Of The Witch.
