10 Actors Who Could Replace The Avengers

7. Thor: Charlie Hunnam

Back when Marvel first started exploring their Avengers Initiative, one of the more complicated elements of their ambitious plans was surely the character of Thor. A Norse god with an enchanted hammer who hails from Asgard, Thor Odinson could easily have become the character who scuppered the proposed superhero team-up. However, thanks to a witty script, canny casting and the capable direction of Kenneth Branagh, 2011€™s Thor was an enjoyable outing and lucrative enough to keep the Marvel masterplan on track. That the film was a success was due in no small part to Chris Hemsworth, whose performance was a perfect balance of gallant and goofy, but his wasn€™t the only name in the mix when casting began in earnest in 2009. Tom Hiddleston, who would so memorably play Loki, was under consideration, as was Chris Hemsworth€™s brother Liam, Alexander Skarsgård and Joel Kinnaman. However, another candidate was Charlie Hunnam, and there€™s no reason why he shouldn€™t still be a serious contender for the role in future. Hunnam has found fame as a burly biker in Sons of Anarchy and the lead in Pacific Rim, so he has enough visibility to play Thor without being unobtainable. Despite not being as tall as Hemsworth, he has the physical presence (and facial hair) to play the God of Thunder, and while Skarsgård also remains a good choice, Hunnam is our current pick of the bunch.

I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
