10 Actors Who Destroyed Themselves For Terrible Movies
5. Dylan O'Brien Had A Near-Death Accident - Maze Runner: The Death Cure
In another example of just how risky attempting to pull off your own stunts can truly be in the middle of an action-heavy picture, a botched sequence that went down during the shooting of Maze Runner: The Death Cure resulted in many fearing the worst for Dylan O'Brien.
The star of the series had reportedly been at the centre of a stunt involving him being held in a harness on top of a moving vehicle, only for him to be unexpectedly yanked off said vehicle and whacked by another. Said accident led to the Thomas actor suffering a concussion, facial fracture, lacerations, and brain trauma.
But O'Brien would somehow find a way to return to shooting the third Maze Runner flick down the road after undergoing reconstructive facial surgery. Though that heavily delayed entry was ultimately classed by some as "best left unseen" if you hadn't already been hooked by the prior YA sci-fi entries.
The fact the leading man was even able to step onto a set again was a huge win in its own right, it must be said. However, O'Brien has since admitted to understandably feeling anxious about the idea of doing any subsequent stunts on a picture, later confessing that "whenever I’m putting on a rig, I’m vetting every piece of that rig and much more".
