10 Actors Who Have Taken Shots At The MCU
1. Edward Norton Is Still Sore About Not Getting To Be The MCU's Hulk
"I did a big action movie called The Incredible Hulk. You know what went wrong? I wanted a better script."
Why He Said It
Before Marvel films became the giant collection of interconnected movies that exist in the same universe that we know and love today, there was The Incredible Hulk, starring Edward Norton and directed by Ang Lee. Norton was nothing if not enthusiastic about the project, signing on to play Bruce Banner, Hulk as well as being an uncredited writer on the project.
But then Norton found himself constantly butting heads with Marvel Studios over which creative direction to take the film in. The run time of the movie proved an especially sore spot, with the dispute over a half-hour's worth of scenes spilling over into the public sphere. Norton was allegedly so dissatisfied with the final product that he refused to participate in the extensive publicity campaign that every Marvel actor has to be prepared to undergo.
Famously, Norton was never brought on for any Hulk sequels and was replaced by Mark Ruffalo for The Avengers. Over the years, Norton has remained mostly tight-lipped about his problems with Marvel that resulted in them parting ways. But he did take a shot at the studio during the Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis, joking that he was considered difficult to work with because he 'wanted a better script.' while filming The Incredible Hulk.
