10 Actors Who Sound NOTHING Like You Would Imagine
2. Toni Collette
Nailing a specific tonality is so difficult, even the best actors have butchered an accent or two in their career. But what's harder than putting on an accent is maintaining it. Mel Gibson's character is supposed to be Scottish in Braveheart but his inflections go all over the place every time he gets emotional. Even though Gibson was ridiculed for his performance, it's REALLY hard for an actor to keep their accent consistent when they're performing a gut-wrenching speech or screaming at the top of their lungs.
But one person who has no trouble maintaining any dialect is the Sydney-born Toni Collette. The Aussie actress has a reputation for two things; starring in horror and playing women that go absolutely berserk. In films like The Sixth Sense, About A Boy, Krampus, Knives Out, and Hereditary, she has at least one scene where she flips her lid.
But no matter how visceral her performance gets, her real voice never slips out for a second. Because we've seen Collette execute American accents in mainstream movies for nearly 20 years, you'd never suspect she hails from Down Under.
