10 Actors Who Suffered The Most In 2016

The McConnaissance is well and truly over.

There’s precious little job security involved with being a movie star. One day you could be the lead in a series of successful action movies, and then five years later you’ll be a guest star on a bad sitcom that makes fun of your faded stardom.

To build a lasting career they must stick to a steady diet of big budget movies and interesting indies, but even then a bad production or creative clashes can see a promising movie become a dud. They could even make a couple of good ones, but they come out at the wrong time and get buried under flashier productions. Unfortunately for the actors on this list their instincts mostly failed them in 2016, leading them to commit to a line-up of weak blockbusters or failed Oscar bait.

That being said Hollywood also loves a good comeback story, so with a little effort, they should be able to rebuild and come back strong in 2017. For their sakes, let’s hope so.

10. Chris Hemsworth

Poor Chris Hemsworth. Sure, he’s a millionaire with the physique of a living god, but it also feels like audiences the world over pathologically reject the idea of him playing a character who isn’t named Thor.

In 2015 he was in Blackhat and In The Heart Of The Sea, which were both pricey failures. It felt like 2016 was a make or break year for Chris as a leading man outside of Marvel, but it wasn’t to be. The Huntsman: Winter’s War scaled new heights when it came to pointless sequel no one asked for, and only grossed about half of the original.

Ghostbusters gave him a chance to flex his comedic muscles and even people who despised the movie had to admit he was the highlight. Since that also underperformed, expect him to stick with Thor for at least a few more years.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
