10 Actors Who Were Totally Miscast As The Hero

5. Kevin Costner (As Robin Hood) - Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Any performance that ultimately leads to an actor picking up the Golden Raspberry for Worst Actor will more often than not go down in history as something of a casting misfire.

And the same can most definitely apply to the decision to bring Kevin Costner aboard the Robin Hood wagon back in the early '90s.

In case you somehow weren't aware at this point, said hero is one of the most legendary that English folklore has to offer. But instead of even attempting to live up to the billing, Costner simply proceeded to phone it in throughout the hit-and-miss Prince of Thieves and simply ignored any calls for an English accent to be present in the leading rogue.

His massively boring and uninspiring work as Hood isn't helped by the fact he often finds himself sharing the stage with Alan Rickman's acclaimed work as the devilish Sheriff of Nottingham, mind. But the choice to just stuff a bankable Costner into the iconic part and make little effort to steer clear of an Americanised Robin was a just plain lazy one, to put it mildly.

It still didn't keep the film from pulling in the big bucks at the box office, though.
