Angela Bassett received enormous critical praise for her portrayal of Malcolm X's wife Betty Shabazz in Spike Lee's eponymous 1992 biopic, and herself expressed concern at the time that she'd never find another role quite so satisfying, even suggesting her career would probably be "all downhill from here."

Bassett's clear love for the part perhaps doesn't make it too surprising, then, that she actually ended up playing Shabazz again just three years later in the 1995 Mario Van Peebles film Panther.

Though Panther can't even begin to hold a candle to Malcolm X, Bassett does small wonders with her brief role, which she presumably couldn't resist accepting.

You'd be forgiven for assuming she'd only played Shabazz once, especially considering that Panther sank like a stone at the box office and quickly disappeared from the cultural consciousness.
