10 Alien Mistakes Neill Blomkamp Should Totally Erase
4. Bishop Is A Man
Remember that moment at the end of Alien 3 where Bishop, Ripley's android companion from Aliens, turns up, and everybody was like: "Huh? Bishop is dead!" Well, it turned out that Bishop had been modelled on a guy called Michael Weyland, co-owner of the infamous Weyland-Yutani Corporation. Alien 3 tried to convince fans that Weyland designed and built Bishop, and thus based the android's appearance on his own. Basically, though, this concept seemed to have been implemented to generate something resembling "added drama" at the end of Alien 3. Instead, it just felt like a bit of an insult to a beloved character - even if Weyland was played by Lance Henriksen. Henriksen went on to reprise his role as Michael Weyland in an Alien spin-off flick, Alien Vs. Predator, for what appeared to be "just the sake of it." The whole thing feels like an unnecessary embellishment that puts a huge amount of weight on the franchise, though, complicating things for no real reason in ways that feel almost fan-fic-like. Hopefully Mr. Blomkamp can find a way to rewrite this particular blemish out.
