10 Amazing Movie Monologues
3. Jaws - Indianapolis Speech
Jaws is one of the most famous movies ever made, and for many good reasons. One of which is fabulous scene where Quint goes into a deep monologue about what happened to the men of the U.S.S. Indianapolis.
The three main characters are in their boat, getting drunk and comparing scars. What starts off as a hilarious scene quickly turns into one of the most intense scenes of the entire movie. When Quint is asked about a scar on his arm, he stops laughing and stares off into space.
Turns out the scar was a removed tattoo from the U.S.S. Indianapolis, which was torpedoed and sank in the ending stages of WWII. Several thousand men were stranded in the water, waiting for a rescue that was not called in due to the fact that it was a highly secret mission.
The men were brutally attacked by thousands of tiger sharks as they awaited rescue. The way that Quint describes the men being attacked, and how ferocious sharks can be really adds to the dread of chasing the main shark in the movie. "They got lifeless eyes, like dolls eyes, and they don't look like they are living, until they bite you that is. And those dead black eyes roll over into white."
