10 Announced Movie Sequels Happening WAY Too Late

And yet, more than any other movie on this list, Midnight Run 2 just might be the quintessential "it's OK not to make it" sequel.

The 1988 action-comedy has had three straight-to-TV sequels without stars Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin, though back in 2021, Universal announced that a "proper" follow-up was in development, with Regina Hall set to star and De Niro tapped to produce.

Except, if De Niro and Grodin aren't in it, what's the point? Moreover, Grodin died back in 2021, prominent supporting players Yaphet Kotto and Dennis Farina are also both dead, and De Niro himself is 80 years of age.

The ship has categorically sailed on this one, and given that Midnight Run doesn't exactly have much brand recognition for contemporary audiences, it seems foolish to try and dine out on nostalgia for it.

Regina Hall is great and all, but there's still a thunderous lack of interest in this one, which probably should've happened 30 years ago.
