10 Announced Movie Sequels Happening WAY Too Late

These sequels should've happened YEARS ago.

Sequels are of course the lifeblood that keeps Hollywood going, because why roll the dice on an original project when you can just give audiences more of what they've already paid for and enjoyed?

But it's also important for studios to capitalise on a hit movie while it still reigns supreme in the cultural consciousness, to take full advantage of a film's popularity when producing the sequel.

Yet as the industry has proven time and time again, it often ends up waiting too damn long to get a new movie into production.

With an increasingly risk-averse Hollywood doubling down on sequels, franchises and, yes, "IP" right now, there are literally hundreds of follow-ups to hit movies in the works, even if many of them are ultimately coming far too late to be worthwhile.

These 10 announced movie sequels all should've happened years, even decades ago, when the original film still held a firm place in the minds of audiences around the world.

But in waiting so long to get into production, those in charge risk releasing these sequels to an audience that has lost interest and moved on...

10. Dodgeball 2

The golden rule of comedy sequels is to strike while the iron is hot, which this recently confirmed follow-up to 2004's classic sports comedy Dodgeball is categorically not doing.

Though whispers of Dodgeball 2 started doing the rounds over a decade ago, it was only last year that 20th Century Studios confirmed the sequel was back on the docket, with Vince Vaughn set to return in the role of protagonist Peter LaFleur.

Yet as widely loved as Dodgeball is, is anyone really asking for a sequel, especially one coming more than 20 years after the fact?

The first film felt like it said everything that needed to be said, and what would a sequel even be other than a blatant rehash of the original?

Plus, it doesn't seem like Ben Stiller is set to return as villain White Goodman, which immediately makes Dodgeball 2 seem a lot less appealing.

If the sequel was going to happen, it should've been made within a few short years of the original, and so given the dire track record of most belated comedy sequels, it's difficult to have any optimism for this whatsoever.
