10 Annoying Movie Tropes You Can't Un-See

1. Henchmen Attack One By One

A time-honoured approach to henchmen fight scenes, from Bond to Jet Li - and spoofed in films like Austin Powers - each goon, warrior, soldier or lackey lines up for their opportunity to take the hero on alone, no matter what the ultimate goal is.

Never mind that, nine times in ten, rushing the hero all at once would overpower them, the one by one approach is favoured in most mobbed fight scenes throughout the history of cinema, and is the most ubiquitous trope in this article.

Once you have noticed this one, you will never forget it again, and find yourself screaming at the TV for years to come, rooting for the other side just for a chance to see them use their common sense.

Having said that, it is for the best that filmmakers have made this a permanent addition to their arsenal. It makes a lot of sense from a cinematic perspective to attack one by one, as, if everyone rushed the hero at the same time, there would be no grace or nuance in the shot, no ideal side-on angle from which to film it.

Thus, unrealistic cliché or not, this trope will likely continue until the day all the world's celluloid burns up in the heat of the dying sun as it becomes a red dwarf and consumes the planets of our solar system one by one.
