10 Annoying Movie Tropes You Can't Un-See
2. Nobody Says Goodbye On The Phone
It's how everyone takes a call in the 20th and 21st century, right? Finish talking and just slam that receiver down, end call on your mobile or simply stow the phone in your jacket pocket without even hanging up. Except it's not.
That's right, you're favourite characters are obnoxious schmucks.
Ever notice everyone just hangs up the phone as soon as they've rattled off their dialogue? No goodbye, see you later, or anything remotely approaching civil conversation and everyday etiquette.
Granted, if the caller is in a rush, racing against the clock to defuse a ticking time bomb that threatens to raze an entire city block, or they have just exchanged harsh lines and pithy quips with their arch-nemesis, then maybe a goodbye isn't called for (called for, get it?). But the grim reality of the movie world is that, most of the time, this just isn't the case.
This trope is common in action films, police procedurals and neo noir thrillers, where a hard nose might get you some respect; but check out the utter absence of manners on everygirl Sarah Connor in 1984's Terminator, innocent Rosemary Woodhouse in 1968's Rosemary's Baby and The Dude himself in 1998's The Big Lebowski. None are, like, without guilt, man.
