10 Asian Horror Movies Everyone Needs To Watch

5. Shutter

Phone 2002
20th Century Fox

Directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom and starring Ananda Everingham and Achita Sikamana, Shutter is a 2004 supernatural Thai production - though there would be a Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor-starring US remake in 2008.

If The Ring scared you away from video players, and Pulse made you nervous about using the internet, then this Asian movie might just be the thing to put you off taking selfies and photos. The story follows on the trail of central characters Jane and Tun, who are in a relationship and accidentally run over a young woman on the road one evening. After that, whenever they take a photograph, they see unusual mists, shadows, figures and haunting faces in their prints.

The film was the fifth highest grossing movie in Thailand in its year of release, and was received well in reviews. Shutter has plenty of atmosphere, jump-scares and unsettling scenes to keep any fan going. No list of Asian horror would have been complete without the addition of this 2004 picture.
