10 Awesome Fan Theories That Improve Already Great Films
7. They're All Part Of The Same Universe - The Films Of Quentin Tarantino
The Theory: Ever since John Travolta's character in Pulp Fiction shared his last name with Reservoir Dog's Mr Blonde its been clear there's more to the Tarantino-verse than a bunch of memorable moments. Early on obsessive fans put forward that the director's first two films took place on the same day (Dog's robbery explaining the distinct lack of police in Pulp Fiction) and with each new release elements have been added; Kill Bill is a feature-length version of Fox Force Five, the TV pilot Mia Wallace starred in; Inglourious Basterds, with its alternate history having Hitler killed in a cinema, is the source of this world's pop culture obsession. How It Improves The Film(s): Genre pastiches, an eye for detail and ever entertaining dialogue have made Tarantino a big-name director with his own box office draw. Throwing in the links not only gives his fans a little extra fun, but highlights his devotion to his own back catalogue; although he may appear egotistical in interviews he clearly cares for his work. Many directors have in-jokes between their films (John Landis loves to sneak in a See You Next Wednesday poster), but in the case of Quentin Tarantino it's so well measured and uncontradictory that it's pretty conceivable they're actually connected.
