10 Awesome Horror Films That Didn't Rely On CGI
2. Kill List
If ever there were a recent horror director that was brutally unforgiving, it's Ben Wheatley. In his genre bending sophomore feature, two down on their luck veterans-turned hitmen take a well-paying but dangerous gig: complete several contracts over the course of an evening.
But as the night goes on, it starts to feel less like an ordinary mob hit job and more like a nightmarish exploration of the occult. Given the potential for head-spinning, psychedelia designed to assault the audience's senses, it's impressive that Wheatley resists.
Throughout the film, the tension and violence never let up, leading to a climax so mean-spirited you'll walk out shaken to the core. This is a film that truly proves CGI is unnecessary when character and a dark heart is all you need.
