10 Awesome Recent Movies That Must Never Get Sequels
2. Call Me By Your Name
Many will argue that Luca Guadagnino's sumptuous romantic drama was robbed of a Best Picture Oscar, and whether you agree or not, Call Me by Your Name is one of the most intoxicating and affecting films of its type in recent years.
Its heartbreaking ending, in which Elio (Timothée Chalamet) learns that his summer lover Oliver (Armie Hammer) is engaged to be married, feels like the perfect, sledgehammer-brutal finale to a beautiful yet tragic love story.
The prospect of continuing this story just feels like a betrayal of that ending, above all else.
Will It Happen?: Guadagnino has enthusiastically discussed the prospect at length over the last 18 months, envisioning a sequel as a Before Sunset-type reunion set many years later.
However, a few months ago the original novel's author, André Aciman, said he wasn't sure if he and the director were seriously going to get the movie made.
It probably will happen, if only because the successful Before template is already there and the movie was a stonking box office success.
