10 Awesome Recent Movies That Must Never Get Sequels

7. The Jungle Book

Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2016, an eye-popping, heartfelt and reverent tribute to the classic animated original that arguably even improved upon it.

With rave reviews, a Best Visual Effects Oscar and $966.6 million at the box office to its name, it wasn't at all surprising when sequel talks began. It's a shame, though, because this really feels like an open-and-shut one-off movie, and there's the strong possibility another film will dilute the original's charm somewhat.

Will It Happen?: A sequel was actually "confirmed" shortly after the original's release, though plans were ultimately put on hold while Favreau directs the live-action The Lion King adaptation.

It's well documented that Disney doesn't tend to rush out sequels and will often make audiences wait many, many years for them. If they wait too long, though, young Neel Sethi may age out of the central role, short of the sequel having a significant time jump and focusing on an adult Mowgli (which is quite possible, really).

Even if The Lion King bombs and Favreau decides he wants a break from the blockbuster sausage factory, it's most certainly going to happen sooner or later.
