10 Awesome Recent Movies You Probably Missed
2. The Informer
Released in the UK back in the summer of 2019 before quietly bowing in the U.S. last November, The Informer is a sturdy, restrained adaptation of the hit 2009 crime novel "Three Seconds."
You've seen similar movies before - an ex-con (Joel Kinnaman) works undercover for the FBI to bring down the Polish Mob - but there's an uncommon delicacy to Andrea Di Stefano's direction, giving his skilled ensemble plenty of room to let character beats breathe.
The suspenseful storytelling is matched by a never-better Kinnaman and a tight ensemble, including Rosamund Pike, Common, Ana de Armas, and, in a rare-but-welcome theatrical appearance these days, the great Clive Owen.
It doesn't offer up too many surprises, but familiar material well-told speaks for itself, and if you're able to see past the generic, streamer-friendly title, this a crime thriller of uncommon composure.
More roles like this for Kinnaman, please.
