10 Awesome Recent Movies You'll Never Watch Again
6. The Whale
Darren Aronofsky typically isn't in the business of making fuzzy, feel-good movies, and so it wasn't exactly a surprise that his adaptation of Samuel D. Hunter's acclaimed play The Whale was one hell of a tough sit.
Brendan Fraser won a well-earned Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of a morbidly obese man who attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Sadie Sink), and as transfixing as the work of Fraser and his co-stars is here, watching a dangerously overweight man continue down his self-destructive path for almost two hours makes The Whale a uniquely rough outing.
Fraser's performance leaves enough of an impression that you likely won't feel the need to watch the film again, especially combined with the common criticism that it "feels like a filmed play," per the movie's extremely limited use of locations and confined, some might say "uncinematic" nature.
That's without getting into the controversies surrounding its polarising depiction of its embattled central character, which might additionally dissuade you from ever going back to it.
