10 Awesome Scenes Of Actors Playing Themselves

1. Robert Englund - Wes Craven's New Nightmare

New Nightmare Another superbly meta take on an established property, New Nightmare has Robert Englund returning to play the role that defined his career, grotesque dream-stalker Freddy Krueger. This time, however, there's a difference; Freddy not only stalks the cast and crew of the Nightmare on Elm Street films, but as the film is set in "our" world - where Nightmare on Elm Street is a film series - Robert Englund exists in it as a "character". In one unforgettable scene during a talk show, Englund comes out dressed in full Krueger make-up, startling Heather Langenkamp, who of course played the original Final Girl of the franchise, Nancy. The point is that nothing like this had ever really been attempted before in a horror film; though Englund was the one consistent presence throughout the original Elm Street films, most still didn't know what he really looked like, and he wasn't a particularly well-known actor outside of the franchise. To see him briefly in the flesh, playing a variant of himself, was an absolute treat indeed. Which scenes of actors playing themselves are your favourite? Let us know in the comments below.
