10 Awful Films Prison Break Actors Want You To Forget
3. Sarah Wayne Callies (Dr. Sara Tancredi) - The Other Side Of The Door
In The Other Side of the Door, Sarah Wayne Callies plays a Maria - a mother riddled with grief after losing her son.
When a woman informs Maria she can contact her child through a sacred ritual, Maria sees this as an opportunity to get closure. But after disobeying the rules of the ritual, she disrupts the connection between her world and the next, releasing a dark spirit.
For the first 30 minutes, The Other Side of the Door is pretty solid. Unlike most horror flicks, the story focuses on humanising the lead character so we genuinely care when she's in danger.
Ironically, the film falls apart the instant the supernatural element is introduced. There are so many unwarranted jump scares, it's irritating rather than scary. There's nothing wrong with relying on jump scares to spook viewers but they only work if utilised sparingly.
If you chuck in a loud bang every five minutes, the audience will quickly tire of it. As the horror factor gets amped up, the film starts using unnecessary close-ups and choppy editing, making all the potentially terrifying moments come across as repetitive and annoying.
