10 Awful Films The Lord Of The Rings Actors Want You To Forget

1. Ian McKellen (Gandalf) - Cats

The film adaptation of Cats sounded like it could've worked. It's based on Andrew Lloyd Webber's beloved musical, has an Oscar-winning director at the helm, and a cast full of talented singers and thespians.

But when the trailer was released, viewers were horrified. Even though it was clear a lot of money was put into the CGI, it was a clear case of the Uncanny Valley. Giving the Broadway adaptation the benefit of a doubt, one would assume the special effects were unfinished and would look better in the actual film.

Sadly, the movie was worse than anyone could imagine. As of this moment, its ranked at #27 in IMDB's worst movies (lower than The Human Centipede III and Jaws 4). The cat-astrophic special effects are so distracting and jarring, it's impossible to focus on the story.

Even though a lot of the actors are surprisingly dull, Ian McKellen is wonderful as the over-the-hill theatre tabby, Gus. But in a way, this makes the film more depressing since we're watching an extraordinary actor giving his all while trapped in an irredeemably terrible production. It's horrible to say but this is one kitty that needed to be put down.
