10 Bad Movies Made Much Better If You Watch Them As A Comedy
3. Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959)
The granddaddy of the enjoyably bad movie, Plan 9 from Outer Space (originally titled Grave Robbers from Outer Space) is director's Ed Wood's inept (yet charming) magnum opus of terribleness. The story follows extraterrestrial beings who are seeking to stop humans from creating a doomsday weapon that would destroy the universe. The film has terrible effects (including cardboard graveyard headstones). The acting and the dialogue are both equally atrocious. The problems behind-the-scenes are well documented. The star of the movie, Bela Lugosi, sadly died before principal filming began. They only had a short, 2-minute scene of the real Lugosi in the can before he passed, but that didn't stop director/writer/producer Ed Wood from pressing forward with filming anyway. Wood ultimately used his girlfriend's chiropractor as a body-double and the rest is history. This is the ultimate example of a movie that is so bad that it has to be valued as a comedic masterpiece. Watch this immediately after Tim Burtons classic biopic Ed Wood, and you'll appreciate both films all the more.
