10 Bad Signs That Spell Doom For Paul Feig's Ghostbusters

2. The Original Was A Moment In Time

You're not going to recreate Ghostbusters. You just aren't. The film was a moment in time, and if you weren't alive for it, it's hard to appreciate it. The soundtrack was a smash hit. People returned to the theatres time and again to rewatch the film. It was popular on home video before DVDs and Blu-rays were even an idea. Kids played with the toys. Collectible cups were sold in theatres and at gas stations (Sunoco had an entire line of these when the sequel came out).

How did that happen? A handful of SNL alums and a talented director all hit their peak at the exact same moment. Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis, along with Ivan Reitman, were all firing on all cylinders. Casting Ernie Hudson was inspired. Same with Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver.

The acting, the direction, the script, all on point. Does anyone really think that simply dropping a bunch of modern Hollywood stars into the Ghostbusters outfits, plastering the logo on it, and calling it Ghostbusters is going to recreate that energy? Kristen Wiig is extremely talented, but are all four players in this new movie, and Feig, peaking the way the original group was?

It's doubtful.
