10 Banned Movies Now Considered Masterpieces
3. Reservoir Dogs
The shortest of Quentin Tarantino's movies but arguably the most important, Reservoir Dogs functions as his feature-length directorial debut, as well as demonstrating the powers of independent filmmaking. When a heist goes terribly wrong for a group of diamond thieves, they try to figure out what went wrong - and who could have ratted them out to the authorities.
Much like the other films on this list, it's an amalgamation of profanity and violence, stylishly shot through Tarantino's pop culture lens. Banned in the UK for its reliance on gore, Reservoir Dogs went through two cinematic releases to earn its money back in the years it was kept from DVD sales.
Though the director portrayed his characters as dislikable and unrelatable to aptly reflect their unstable undertones, the ear-torture scene in particular still caused some outrage for its sadistic intent, and Mr Blonde's gruesome enjoyment of the ordeal. To be fair though, it's never been more entertaining to see a man serenade a dismembered ear.
